Max. size:  10.85 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Asia: Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu in Japan.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Oviparous, with distinct pairing during breeding (Ref. 205). Commercially cultured in Japan (Ref. 559).

Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  Occurs in Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu, excluding the western part. Also recorded from Lake Biwa (Ref. 78994). Status of threat in the 2005 Red Data Book of Shiga Prefecture: data deficient so caution needed (Ref. 79825).
