Asia: Southern Anatolia, Turkey and Near East. Found in Lake Beysehir and river basins of Göksu, Seyhan, Ceyhan, Kueik, Orontes (Mediterranean Sea) and Tigris-Euphrates (Persian Gulf). |

Inhabits rivers and lakes including reservoirs in Iraq. Prefers stone grounds and still waters in river and lakes in Turkey. Feeds on insect larvae, and eggs and fry of fishes as well as diatoms and algae (Ref. 109283). |
