Occurs in streams, descending from the wet zone foot hills, particularly in areas with gravel or pebble substrates, but also in the coastal marshes. Found in streams and tanks in the dry zone. Feeds mainly on detritus and algae. A potential larvicide fish (Ref. 4832). |

Occurs in the Peninsular India as high as Orissa, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Known from the Western Ghats (Ref. 40976) in Goa, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka (Ref. 43638) and Maharashtra (Ref. 43634). Also Ref. 41236, 43640, 87807.
