Family:  Cyprinidae (Minnows or carps), subfamily: Smiliogastrinae
Max. size:  8 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Asia: India and Bangladesh.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Found in rivers, canals, beels and ponds (Ref. 1479). Occurs in backwaters of flowing rivers over sandy substrate (Ref. 41236).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 20 March 2010 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  Known from Ganges and Brahmaputra river systems in the Gangetic provinces, Assam, Orissa, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu (Ref. 4832). Also Ref. 41236, 43640, 45255, 94011.
