Family:  Nemacheilidae (Brook loaches)
Max. size:  4.2 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater; pH range: 8, potamodromous
Distribution:  Asia: India, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh (Ref. 4832). Reported from Afghanistan (Ref. 39701).
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Adults inhabit clear waters, hill streams with sandy bottom (Ref. 1479). Collected in a large river with high, turbid monsoon flow and with diverse substrate consisting of sand, mud, gravel, pebble, cobble, and boulders (Ref. 85713).

Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  Adults occur in Himalayas from Darjeeling through Kumaon to Himachal Pradesh and Punjab in Sutlej basin (Ref. 41236). Present in Nainital Lake (Ref. 89721). Also Ref. 4832, 45255.
