Family:  Ailiidae (Asian schilbeids)
Max. size:  60.9 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater; brackish, potamodromous
Distribution:  Asia: Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, and Nepal.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Inhabit large fresh water and tidal rivers (Ref. 41236). Feed on insects, shrimps, other crustaceans and small fish (Ref. 4833). Oviparous, eggs are unguarded (Ref. 205).

Country info:  Known from Poonch valley in Jammu and Kashmir, eastern Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Darjeeling, Assam, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh and Gangetic plains (Ref. 45255). Also found in Maharashtra (Ref. 43634). Present in Buxa, Adma and Jayanti rivers (Ref. 89719).
