Family:  Platytroctidae (Tubeshoulders)
Max. size:  25 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range 700 - 2700 m
Distribution:  Eastern Atlantic: west of Iceland to off south-western tip of Ireland, Mauritania, Senegal and Namibia. Elsewhere, tropical and subtropical western Atlantic.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Mesopelagic, but mostly bathypelagic to benthopelagic.

Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  The most frequently encountered species, in the family of Platytroctidae, that occurs in the waters around Greenland. Has been caught as far north as Disko Bay and Dohrn Bank (Ref. 9925). Also Ref. 43202.
