Family:  Nemacheilidae (Brook loaches)
Max. size:  12 cm TL (male/unsexed); max.weight: 13.9 g
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater; brackish; pH range: 6.5 - 7.5; dH range: 5 - 18
Distribution:  Asia: drainages of Guangdong Province and Hainan Island in China. Also in Viet Nam (Ref. 89724).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 10-11; Anal soft rays: 2-5. Short but high caudal fin. Cone-shaped head. Three pairs of barbels. Body covered by small round scales, no scale on the cheeks. Green gray in the body, yellowish stomach. A prominent black spot in the middle of the origin of caudal fin (Ref. 33389).
Biology:  Adults inhabit streams on sand and gravel bottom (Ref. 26563). Length type refers to body length, assumed in TL.
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 19 January 2011 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  Known from Guangdong Province in the drainages of Han Jiang and its river mouth, Dong Jiang, Bei Jiang and Xi Jiang and from drainages in Hainan Island and their river mouths. Also found in Zhujiang River (=Pearl River) system (Ref. 26563, 89718), and Beijiang River (Ref. 89718). Also Ref. 33690, 40772.
