Family:  Samaridae (Crested flounders)
Max. size:  16 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range - 67 m
Distribution:  Western Pacific: Japan and Taiwan. Recently reported from the Chesterfield Islands (Ref. 11897).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 67-76; Anal soft rays: 52-59; Vertebrae: 38-39. Upper jaw reaching to below anterior quarter of lower eye, length 2.8 to 3.3 times in head length. Head length 4.4 to 5.2 times in SL (Ref 12933).
Biology:  Feeds on small benthic animals.
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 07 November 2020 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  Known from the East China Sea in the Zhoushan Islands (Zhejiang Province) and the South China Sea to the Gulf of Tongking west of the Hainan Island (Ref. 33837). Known from the South China Sea in the Zhoushan, Lexian( N28°10'-20' )(Ref.33837)
