Family:  Salangidae (Icefishes or noodlefishes)
Max. size:  16.1 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater; brackish; marine, anadromous
Distribution:  Northwest Pacific: temperate coast of China (Ref. 4537). Reported from Viet Nam (Ref. 44416).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 10-12; Anal soft rays: 26-29. Slim and long body, straight in the back and stomach. Head looks like a triangle from the top. Smooth body without scale, only male has a line of thin scales (around 18) near the origin of the caudal fin. A line of black spots located along the side of the stomach, starting from the origin of the pectoral fin till the origin of the caudal fin. White opaque body (Ref. 33336).

Country info:  Known from Guangdong Province in the drainages of Han Jiang and its river mouth, Rong Jiang and its river mouth, Bei Jiang, Xi Jiang and Zhu Jiang delta. Also known from Fujian Province (Ref. 47843). Commonly found in the East China Sea and the South China Sea (Ref. 26563). Known from Rongjiang drainage: Rongcheng in Jieyang County; Beijiang drainage: Qingcheng in Qingyuan County; southwest of Qingyuan County, Hekou; Xijiang drainage: Jiangkou in Fengkai County; Ducheng in Yunan County; and Zhaoqing City(Ref.33336).
