Family:  Odontobutidae (Freshwater sleepers)
Max. size:  17.5 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Asia: China, Japan (Ref. 559) and Korea (Ref. 41509).
Diagnosis:  Pectoral fin short, not reaching below second dorsal fin origin. Lower end of opercular papillae group 17 not continuous to group 19 (Ref. 41509).
Biology:  Takes up life at the bottom right after hatching; spends its whole life in freshwater.
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 09 January 2023 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  Known from Liangzi Lake (Ref. 38003). Introduced from its native range to other regions in the country (intensive culture in ponds)(Ref. 55380). Present in Pearl River (Ref. 89718). Also Ref. 26561. Yalu River (China), Jinlin Province , Guangxi Zhuang and Hainan Island, China (Ref. 092840).
