Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 20 - 230 m
Distribution:  Western Atlantic: Canada (Ref. 5951) to North Carolina, USA (Ref. 7251) to São Paulo, Brazil (Ref. 36453).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 78-87; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 59-67
Biology:  Found on soft bottoms (Ref. 5217). Marketed fresh (Ref. 5217).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 13 February 2021 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  Ranges south to at least Ilha dos Búzios, São Paulo; rare in the southeastern coast of Brazil (Ref. 36453). First recorded off Nordeste coast (state of Bahia) over Cadeia dos Abrolhos seamount (Rodger Bank), at depth of 56 m (Ref. 119560). Also Ref. 57756.
