Family:  Cyprinidae (Minnows or carps), subfamily: Smiliogastrinae
Max. size:  4.5 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Africa: Cunene, Okavango and upper and middle Zambezi including the Kafue system (Ref. 52193). Also in the upper Congo River basin in the upper Lufira (Ref. 11970), the Luapula system (Ref. 27609, 41590) and Lake Bangweulu area (Ref. 42135, 52193).
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Occurs in shallow, well-vegetated water in backwaters, floodplains and river margins (Ref. 7248).

Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  Known from the Okavango Delta in the Boteti River, Thamalakane River, Nxaraga Lagoon, Xakanixa Lagoon, Magwexana Lagoon, perennial swamp rain pools, mainstream channel and Dungu Lagoon. Also Ref. 7248.
