Max. size:  35 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 42 - 68 m
Distribution:  Eastern Indian Ocean: endemic to southern Australia.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Occurs in coastal waters. Ovoviviparous (Ref. 205). The male carries the eggs in a brood pouch which is found under the tail (Ref. 205). Males known to brood at 31.4 cm TL.
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 18 May 2016 Ref. (130435)

Country info:  Type locality, off Flinders I., South Australia, AMS E.845 (holotype of Solegnathus robustus), Known from Spencer Gulf (137°) to off Flinders Island, SA (134°30'E) (Ref. 75154). Also Ref. 5316.
