Environment:  pelagic-oceanic; marine; depth range 0 - 750 m, oceanodromous
Distribution:  Atlantic Ocean: In the eastern Atlantic recorded between about 18°N and 3°S at about 20°W, but about 12°S in Angola Current. Southwest Pacific: Australia (Ref. 7300).
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  High-oceanic, mesopelagic species. Found at 275-750 m during the day, nyctoepipelagic at surface and down to 125 m (maximum abundance at the surface and at 50 m) (Ref. 4479).

Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  Known off Cape Howe, N.S.W. and off Eucla to off Point Nuyts, W.A. Australian specimens most closely resemble the North Atlantic species as described by Bekker (Ref. 7300).
