Family:  Saccopharyngidae (Swallowers)
Max. size:  62 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range 1100 - 1500 m
Distribution:  Eastern Atlantic: one specimen between the Canary Islands and Cape Verde; west of Madeira and off Cape Town, South Africa (Ref. 6718). Western Indian Ocean: north of Madagascar.
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 15 May 2013 Ref. (124695)
Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  One specimen north of Madagascar (Ref. 6539).
