Family:  Zenarchopteridae (Internally fertilized halfbeaks)
Max. size:  20 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  pelagic; freshwater; depth range - 0 m
Distribution:  Asia and Oceania.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 12-15; Anal soft rays: 11-14
Biology:  Inhabits estuaries, lowland rivers and tributaries, sometimes penetrating well inland. Favors warm (25°-30°C), shallow water in areas with dense aquatic plant growth. A shoal-forming species which swims near the surface. Mainly herbivorous but insects are also consumed (Ref. 44894).
