Max. size:  12 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range 530 - 1335 m
Distribution:  Western Pacific: Australia and New Zealand; also Japan (Ref. 559). Eastern Pacific: southern part of the California Current region, well seaward of the continental shelf (Ref. 35839). Western Atlantic: Off Bermuda (Ref. 37473).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 11-12; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 14-16; Vertebrae: 42-45. Branchiostegal rays: 17 (Ref. 35839). Anal fin behind end of dorsal fin. Photophores are conspicuous (Ref. 37473).
Biology:  Mesopelagic and bathypelagic species. Oviparous, with planktonic eggs and larvae (Ref. 35839). Also Ref. 58302.
