Family:  Tetraodontidae (Puffers), subfamily: Tetraodontinae
Max. size:  12 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathydemersal; marine; depth range 90 - 435 m
Distribution:  Indo-West Pacific: South Africa to northwestern Australia; northward to South China Sea (Ref. 33352). Southeast Atlantic: southeast coast of South Africa (Ref. 4919). Mediterranean (Lessepsian migrant) (Ref. 96612).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 8-9; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 6-7. Grey with a dark blotch above and behind eye and at base of dorsal fin; rear margin of caudal fin black; black specks on belly (Ref. 4919).
