Family:  Synodontidae (Lizardfishes), subfamily: Synodontinae
Max. size:  25 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 27 - 320 m
Distribution:  Western Atlantic: North Carolina, USA and northern Gulf of Mexico to the Antilles (Ref. 26340) and the Guianas.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 10-11; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 10-11. Side of body with about 8 obscure dark blotches; lower jaw symphysis with a fleshy knob; no black patch on shoulder girdle under gill cover (Ref. 13608).
Biology:  Absent from the shore zone.
