Family:  Sciaenidae (Drums or croakers)
Max. size:  20 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; brackish; marine; depth range - 20 m
Distribution:  Western Atlantic: Virginia to Texas in USA, except for southern Florida.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Occurs usually over hard sandy mud bottoms in coastal waters to about 20 m depth. Also common in river estuaries. Feeds mainly on small crustaceans. Not marketed for human consumption.
