Family:  Squalidae (Dogfish sharks)
Max. size:  55 cm TL (male/unsexed); 72.3 cm TL (female)
Environment:  benthopelagic; marine; depth range 242 - 613 m
Distribution:  Western Atlantic: Gulf of Mexico (West Florida Slope off Tampa, Florida to west side of the head of DeSoto Canyon off Louisiana).
Diagnosis:  This species possess a longer body, smaller interorbital space (equal to that of the mouth width which is 0.78-0.82 times the pre-oral length); short caudal fin; differently-proportioned first dorsal fin (interdorsal space, 24.6% to 25.8% of TL); relatively short snout; prenarial length 0.64-0.69 times mouth width and 1.32-1.59 times eye length; denticles wide, tricuspidate, overlapping, and rhomboid; caudal 'bar' present at the fork of the caudal fin; dorsal caudal lobe wide, and a broad rounded tip (Ref. 120195).
