Max. size:  8.2 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater,
Distribution:  Africa: Clanwilliam Olifants River system, western Cape in South Africa (Ref. 7248, 119402). Many populations have been reduced or extirpated by introduced alien bass (Ref. 7248).
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Prefers large, deep pools in clear streams. Feeds mainly on insects from the surface waters. Breeds in summer, males congregating in a nuptial school over vertical rock surfaces in flowing water. Closely related to the Twee River redfin Barbus erubescens (Ref. 7248).
