Family:  Leuciscidae (Minnows), subfamily: Pogonichthyinae
Max. size:  8 cm NG (male/unsexed)
Environment:  pelagic; freshwater; depth range 2 - 5 m
Distribution:  North America: primarily in upper Mississippi and Ohio drainages, U.S.A and Manitoba, Canada.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Inhabit cool streams. Feeds on aquatic insects (Ref. 54729). Survives well in aquarium conditions and the pink lateral band of mature males make them attractive for native fish aquaria (Ref. 54726).
