Max. size:  8 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 2 - 15 m, non-migratory
Distribution:  Indian Ocean: Maldives to Java, Indonesia.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 12-12; Dorsal soft rays (total): 11-12; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 11-12. Description: Head and body brown, tail white (Ref. 90102). Recognized by the white ventral and caudal fins (Ref. 48636). Faint yellow spot on pectoral fin base.
Biology:  Adults are found in seaward reef slopes (Ref. 9710). Also in sheltered coral reefs along upper slopes. Usually seen singly or in loose groups (Ref. 48636). Diurnal species (Ref. 52881). Oviparous, distinct pairing during breeding (Ref. 205). Eggs are demersal and adhere to the substrate (Ref. 205). Males guard and aerate the eggs (Ref. 205).
