Family:  Myctophidae (Lanternfishes), subfamily: Myctophinae
Max. size:  5.6 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine, oceanodromous
Distribution:  Circumglobal between 36° and 43°S. Southern Ocean: 45°10'S, 69°12'E and 41°-48°S, 51°-71°E. Once taken west of Slangkop Lighthouse in southern Africa (Ref. 4066).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 12-13; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 21-24
Biology:  High-oceanic and mesopelagic; found in the upper 104 m at night (Ref. 4066). Possibly fed on by Champsocephalus gunnari.
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 29 June 2018 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
