Distribution:  South America: Amazon basin (one record from Amazon River, and that of the holotype).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 58-62; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 44-45; Vertebrae: 35-35. Absence of a gill opening on the eyed side; interorbital space equal to one-half of the orbital diameter (Ref. 49504).
