Max. size:  25 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine
Distribution:  Western Indian Ocean: restricted to the east coast of South Africa.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 12-12; Dorsal soft rays (total): 7-7; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 8-8. Blackish in color and covered with small blue spots.
Biology:  Adults are found in shallow water at depths of 3 m or less (Ref. 27772). Eggs are guarded by the male parent (Ref. 205).
