Family:  Leuciscidae (Minnows), subfamily: Pogonichthyinae
Max. size:  8.1 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  North America: Coosa, Cahaba, Alabama and extreme upper Black Warrior River systems (all Mobile Bay drainage) in northwestern Georgia, Alabama and southeastern Tennessee, USA.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Inhabits gravelly riffles and pools (sometimes sandy pools) of creeks and small rivers (Ref. 5723); also found in springs, and small, clear streams (Ref. 10294).

Threat to humans:  harmless
