Family:  Muraenolepididae (Eel cods)
Max. size:  30 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; marine; depth range 135 - 860 m
Distribution:  Southwest Atlantic: Strait of Magellan (Ref. 27363) and the Patagonian region of Argentina. Southern Ocean: Kerguelen, Heard and Crozet islands.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 161; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 107. Dorsal filament 3 times longer than eye diameter; pectoral fins rather short, not reaching to anus when appressed. Lateral line extending to below middle of second dorsal fin. Color is gray-reddish; body with small black dots; abdomen black (Ref. 1371).
Biology:  Dwells on the continental and insular shelves and slopes. Feeds on zooplankton.
