Environment:  demersal; freshwater
Distribution:  Africa: Restricted to the Volta, rivers in Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Liberia and Guinea-Bissau (St. Paul, Mano and Culufi Rivers).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 27-33; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 41-51. SL/Body depth 8.0-11.7. LS/Head length 4.3-6.2. Narrow snout. Head length/Width of interorbital space 5.0-9.3. Uniformly dark colored.
Biology:  Affinities: morphologically similar to M. anguilloides (Ref. 2915).
