Family:  Veliferidae (Velifers)
Max. size:  28 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; marine; depth range 40 - 240 m
Distribution:  Indo-Pacific: off Maputo in Mozambique; also from Australia, New Zealand and Hawaii. Reported from Japan (Ref. 559).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 21-22; Dorsal soft rays (total): 20-23; Anal spines: 17-18; Anal soft rays: 16-18
Biology:  A benthic species (Ref. 75154) found on the continental shelf (Ref. 9563, 75154) and slope (Ref. 559); also on seamounts (Ref. 559).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 13 August 2019 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
