Family:  Melanotaeniidae (Rainbowfishes, blue eyes)
Max. size:  12 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater; pH range: 6.5 - 7.5
Distribution:  Asia: known only from two tributary streams of the Yakati River in the middle of the narrow isthmus that connects the Vogelkop Peninsula with the remainder of New Guinea (Irian Jaya, Indonesia).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 5-7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 11-15; Anal spines: 1-1; Anal soft rays: 21-26
Biology:  Occurs in streams in mountainous, rainforest terrain at elevations between 200 and 400 m.
IUCN Red List Status: Data deficient (DD); Date assessed: 01 August 1996 Ref. (123251)
