Marcusenius furcidens (Pellegrin, 1920)

Max. size:  32 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater, potamodromous
Distribution:  Africa: Como, Bandama and Sassandra rivers in Côte d'Ivoire. Affinities: Marcusenius ussheri, Marcusenius mento, and Marcusenius thomasi. Recorded from Tano River, Ghana (Ref. 272).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 29-34; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 30-36. Dorsal fin origin same level as anal fin. Body depth 3.2-3.5 x SL. Thick caudal peduncle, 2.6-3.8 x its length.
Biology:  Females can produce as many as 9200 eggs (Ref. 10606).
