Family:  Mastacembelidae (Spiny eels)
Max. size:  17.8 cm (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater
Distribution:  Asia: Meklong River basin, Thailand.
Diagnosis:  Concave rostrum bearing 9-11 pairs of tooth plates; coloration very distinctive; 10-12 faint small ocelli along base of dorsal fin; dorsal and anal fins with fine dark striation. Dorsal, anal and caudal fins entirely separate. Rim of anterior nostril with 6 fingerlike projections. Penultimate (enlarged) dorsal fin spine articulating with same vertebra (33-35) as enlarged anal fin spine (Ref. 39392).
