Family:  Cyprinidae (Minnows or carps), subfamily: Cyprininae
Max. size:  200 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Asia: Mekong basin in Laos and Yunnan, China.
Diagnosis:  Distinguished from the single other species of the genus by its 5-8 longitudinal black stripes on the body; 81-92 lateral line scales (including those on caudal fin); 40-46 predorsal scales (Ref. 27732).
Biology:  Reported to prefer large, deep rivers without much current (Ref. 27732).
