Family:  Lethrinidae (Emperors or scavengers), subfamily: Lethrininae
Max. size:  25 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 5 - 35 m, non-migratory
Distribution:  Western Pacific: Ryukyu Islands to northeastern Australia and New Caledonia. Also northwestern Australia.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 10-10; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9-9; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 8-8. Description: Body pale grey with blotches dark brown scattered extending to tail. Body elongate moderately, depth max 2.8-3.1 in SL, 6-8 scales in supratemporal patch. Scale rows above lateral line (from base of middle dorsal spines to lateral line) 4.5. Snout 1.9-2.0 in head length. Teeth in lateral jaw conical. Pectoral fin axil inner surface scaleless. (Ref. 90102)
Biology:  Found on or near reefs (Ref. 50562). Solitary or in small groups (Ref. 90102).
