Family:  Myctophidae (Lanternfishes), subfamily: Lampanyctinae
Max. size:  16 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range 60 - 1464 m, oceanodromous
Distribution:  North Atlantic: between 65°N and 47°N. South Atlantic: between the Subtropical Convergence and the Antarctic Polar Front (also circumglobal). Southern Ocean: 60°-63°S, 90°-120°W and in the Falkland Current region at about 52°S, 43°W.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 14-16; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 16-19
Biology:  Oceanic, mesopelagic (Ref. 4066), epipelagic to bathypelagic (Ref. 58426). Found between 500-1,000 m during the day; between 60-175 m (juveniles) and deeper than 250 m (adults) at night (Ref. 4479). Feeds on crustaceans (Ref. 58426).
