Max. size:  38.5 cm TL (male/unsexed); 31.4 cm TL (female); max.weight: 86.2 g; max.weight: 137.9 g
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 0 - 550 m
Distribution:  Southern Ocean: Antarctic Peninsula, South Shetland Islands and the Antarctic continental shelf. Probably circum-Antarctic, but no records yet from West Antarctica.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Adults spawn during September in Adélie Land. Hatching probably occurs in spring (mid-November) and pelagic development probably ends in autumn (February and March). Food items: fishes, amphipods, fish eggs and polychaetes (Ref. 5192). Larval pelagic phase is short (Ref. 41551).
