Family:  Labridae (Wrasses), subfamily: Cheilininae
Max. size:  8 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 4 - 45 m
Distribution:  Western Central Pacific: Philippines and Celebes, Indonesia.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 11-11; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9-9; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 9-9. Variable in color from pinkish to bright red or purple and dorsal fin often bright yellow in adults (Ref. 48636).
Biology:  Occurs in outer reefs over bottom of coral rubble or heads of small finely branched coral. Feeds on zooplankton. Usually occurs in moderately large groups in depths of about 20-25 m (Ref. 48636).
