Family:  Gasteropelecidae (Freshwater hatchetfishes)
Max. size:  2.81 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  pelagic; freshwater; pH range: 5.5 - 6.5; dH range: 4
Distribution:  South America: Negro and upper Orinoco River basins.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Feeds mainly at the surface on insects, but also takes crustaceans. Aquarium specimens reach 3.5 cm TL (Ref. 7020).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 12 August 2020 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
