Family:  Cichlidae (Cichlids), subfamily: Pseudocrenilabrinae
Max. size:  41.7 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Africa: Endemic to Lake Malawi.
Diagnosis:  Description: snout shorter than B. rhoadesii (Ref. 55954). Coloration: dark band on lateral line (Ref. 55954).
Biology:  Preys on juvenile cichlids on sandy substrate. Juveniles are very common in near-shore shallow waters, adults found in deeper waters (Ref. 5595).
