Nemacheilidae (Brook loaches) |
7.57 cm SL (male/unsexed) |
demersal; freshwater |
Asia: Dali-Nur Lake in Hexigten Banner, Inner Mongolia. |
Dorsal soft rays (total): 10-10; Anal soft rays: 8-8; Vertebrae: 40-42. Distinguished from all other species of Barbatula from northern Asia by its nearly columnar anterior body (vs. slightly compressed) and greatly convex predorsal profile of the body (vs. slightly convex or straight). It is similar to B. nuda in having a scaleless predorsal body, by which both can be distinguished all other congeners from northern Asia, with sparsely, or fully scaled predorsal bodies. Can be further diagnosed from B. nuda in having widely separated nostrils (vs. closely-set) and an upper lip with a slight and shallow median indentation (vs. marked and deep median indentation) (Ref. 93050). |
