Ground color off-white; a large, circular brown spot antero-dorsal to pectoral- fin base; small, brown spots on snout, cheeks, opercula, pectoral-fin base and nape; all fins spotted. Predorsal scales 8. Cycloid scales on nape and isthmus. Cheeks and opercula fully scaled. Spines I-IV of 1st dorsal fin filamentous, III longest; characterized further by having pointed caudal fin, less than 25% SL; longitudinal scale series 31-32; depth of body 3.4-3.5 in SL (Ref. 90102).
Solitary or in pairs (Ref. 90102). Inhabits shallow, well protected bays and estuaries. On sand or mud along algae-reef margins (Ref. 48637). Specimen collected from a patch reef, 2-3 m in depth.
