Comments: Type locality of the syntypes of Leptoglanis brevis: 'Rivière Lubumbashi, à Elisabethville' (Ref. 42540). Known from Luapula River drainage (Ref. 42540, 45616, 86935), upper Lualaba River (Ref. 2970), Lukuga River (Ref. 36901), Koki River (Ref. 36901) and Luvubu River, a Rusizi River tributary (Ref. 87863). Also Ref. 58032.

Etymology: Zaireichthys: Composed form Zaire river + Greek,ichtys = fish; the habitat of this fish (Ref. 45335).

Issue
It is probably a synonym of Zaireichthys rotundiceps (Ref. 51287, 78218). But it is retained as valid because the types are "closely similar, possibly conspecific" (Ref. 58032).
