Remarks 'Eglefin' from Middle Dutch 'schelvisch' and Old French 'esclevis' replaced by 'esclefin, aiglefin, ├Ęglefin' with the root word 'aigre', from Latin slang 'acrus' from Latin 'acer, acris', i.e., acrid, bitter, pungent, sour (p. 17 in Ref. 9404). Also Ref. 171, 56807, 95632.
