Locality
Distribution Known from Scotland to Senegal, the Canary islands and Madeira islands and the Mediterranean, at least as far east as Genoa (Italy).
Quote The Black Sea specimens could belong to either species (Lepadogaster lepadogaster or L. purpurea) according to the work of Murgoci (1964) who identified in that region the purpurea subspecies described by Briggs (1986, 1990); the population from Morocco, that Brownell (1978) found to have intermediate distribution of meristic counts, could in fact contain specimens from both species.
