Etymology: Hypostomus: Greek, hypo = under + Greek, stoma = mouth (Ref. 45335). More on author: Kner.
Regarding to the restricted type locality by Steindachner (1881), the status of H. auroguttatus has to be revised, may be a senior synonym of H. luetkeni, and in this case, H.auroguttatus auctorum needs a new name ( Zawadzki et al.).
