soft rays: 9. Under Evynnis, this species is chracterized by the following set of characters: D XII,10, with the first and second spines considerably shorter than third and fourth spines which are extended, and the third dorsal fin spine less than 2 time in fifth dorsal fin spine; A III,9; pectoral fin rays usually 15; scales on preopercular flange absent; body depth relatively lower, standard length/body depth over 2.1; when fresh, with scattered cobalt blue spotted markings on side; teeth on vomer usually present (Ref. 75039).
Inhabits muddy and muddy-sandy bottoms. Feeds on a wide range of benthic invertebrates and on fish. Two spawning seasons, early summer and autumn. Utilized for human consumption especially in the East China Sea where it is caught mostly by trawlers. An important food fish.
