Etymology: Limnochromis: Greek, limne = swamp + Greek, chromis = a fish, perhaps a perch (Ref. 45335). More on author: Boulenger.
Environment: milieu / climate zone / depth range / distribution range
Freshwater; demersal; pH range: 7.0 - ? ; dH range: 10 - 20. Tropical; 24°C - 26°C (Ref. 2060); 3°S - 9°S
Africa: Endemic throughout Lake Tanganyika, at great depths.

Max length : 13.0 cm TL male/unsexed; (Ref. 5659)
Considered an easygoing and adaptable fish of long standing with aquarists. Is noteworthy among lake mouth brooders by the fact that both parents participate in the incubation of the brood, which implies that the mates are bonded in a monogamous relationship lasting until at least as long as the fry are incubated (Ref. 6770).
